FELDFABRIK
In order to minimize transport routes (and thus CO2 emissions), the wood-clay ceiling elements for the HORTUS office building (Part of the Switzerland Innovation PArk Basel Area Main Campus) were Produced in the "Feldfabrik" (field factory) from June 2023 to March 2024. here almost 30 tons of rammed earth mixture had to be filled into the prefabricated wooden elements every day. Most of this was done by hand using specially developed machines and devices. This was an important element in HORTUS' radical sustainability goal: being energy positivity in one generation.
The field factory was developed and operated by wood builder Blumer Lehmann together with the Austrian clay specialists from Lehm Ton Erde.
